There is a lot that one can learn from the work of great Artists who worked in the past. I am sure most of us would want to thank them for being a source of inspiration to us all. In my own way I have paid tribute to the great sculptors from 7th century who carved several monolithic rocks at Mahabalipuram (also called Mamallapuram). I have also attempted to capture the beauty of the 12-13th century carvings at Belur and halebeedu.
I also want to pay homage to some Western/European Artists. Last month when I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York I sketched the works of Van Gogh, Monet and O’Keefe. Here they are:
Van Gogh
O'Keefe
Monet

Illustration Friday: Dance

This charcoal sketch is based on my photograph of a stone carving in one of the Hoysala temples at Belur/Halebeedu (unfortunately I am not able to recall the exact location) in Karnataka, India.
