Tribute to the Masters

There is a lot that one can learn from the work of great Artists who worked in the past. I am sure most of us would want to thank them for being a source of inspiration to us all. In my own way I have paid tribute to the great sculptors from 7th century who carved several monolithic rocks at Mahabalipuram (also called Mamallapuram). I have also attempted to capture the beauty of the 12-13th century carvings at Belur and halebeedu.

I also want to pay homage to some Western/European Artists. Last month when I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York I sketched the works of Van Gogh, Monet and O’Keefe. Here they are:

Van Gogh

O'Keefe

Monet

At the Van Gogh I putted full screen on and stepped right in to the scenerie :-) nice summer-feeling!

I don't know how you did it, but you made the Monet cathedral look like something built in South India. It takes on another atmosphere under your hand. I love it.
I've been seeing for some time, a relationship btwn your sketches and VG, something about the energy in the line. It's been a long-awaited posting!

Great sketches. Since I have not seen any of these great masterpieces, I can't compare with the originals. But I am sure you must have captured the spirit of the originals. :)

Oooh, I love these! What a great idea, I've often thought of doing it myself, but haven't yet.
